| Rising star Chris Holmes, who returned to the UK late January after a rigorous five-day test of the Mygale Formula BMW FB2 in Spain, is confident of honours in the 2006 Formula BMW UK Championship series.
Before heading off to Brands Hatch and Ireland for more testing ahead of the first race of the season in April, 18-year-old Chris said: “We will be hitting the road running. This is the year when I am sure we will win races and the championship.”
Leeds-born Chris, who graduated to the Formula BMW series after finishing sixth in the 2004 Caterham Superlight Challenge with Parker Racing, joined the Ripon-based Mackie Motorsport team at the end of 2005 after a season with Fortec Motorsport.
After two sessions in the Pro RaceTrainer at the Autosport International, he commented: “I thought it was a very realistic simulation. Definitely the best I’ve used. The steering was very good. It is very impressive. I think for the sure that, with the right track software and cars, it could be used for actual testing and driver training.
“I think any motorsport driver would find it very useful when for whatever reason they can’t get on the track, just to keep them sharp.”
