Terry, a former newspaper reporter and executive, who quit tabloid journalism because he “couldn’t stomach the sensationalist garbage any longer”, joined BallRacing Developments in early 2005. It followed a period of 17 years during which time he edited a trade magazine for Christian book publishers and bookshops, ran a media consultancy and wrote three books, the last of which "Bernie's Game", an unauthorized biography on the life of Formula One circus ringmaster, Bernie Ecclestone, reached the number two slot in bestselling sports book list of the UK national Newspaper, The Independent.

While a primary function is to add to the success of BRD’s last 11 years in building simulators for leading F1 teams and manufacturers, the BTCC, the WRC and the DTM, Terry sees it as a benchmark by which to measure the challenge in developing the potential of simulation in areas of commercial application.

He said: “I am convinced that there is huge potential, for example, in driver-training simulation, not only in driving school tuition, in which we are collaborating with companies in Japan and France, but also as a valuable aid for rehabilitation professionals in the treatment of brain injury traumas caused by injury, stroke or neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. The hardware and software being developed by BRD is ideal for assessing the cognitive skills and awareness of patients, and, because the complexity of the software can be increased, in monitoring improvement, particularly in recovery from brain injury.

“I find this area of simulation particularly exciting and worthwhile in that it can make a beneficial contribution in helping the professionals to improve the quality of people’s lives. It has a real purpose that isn’t driven by the bottom line.”

Terry, 60, married with four children, includes running, studying languages, backgammon and reading, among his weekend hobbies, when he is not serving meals and washing dishes at a hospice in his home town of Welwyn Garden City, Herts, on Sunday afternoons.
